Takshni’s Maru Bihag
The collection showcases the travel experience of the designer who has travelled across the stretch of India from Kashmir in the north to Auroville in the south. This collection is her introspection. People, nature, places and interactions during her travel has inspired her to design and she has captured her emotions and moments in her artworks. The collection is titled Maru Bihag, inspired by Raga Maru Bihag, a popular raga in Indian classical music, specifically within the Hindustani tradition, often performed during the late evening hours. The raga's choice of notes and its progression evokes a sense of introspection.
Palette of Zabarwan | Palette of Zabarwan is inspired by the paradise-like landscapes of Kashmir. Chashma Shahi Garden, nestled at the foothills of the Zabarwan range, served as a primary source of inspiration for Richa. During her visit to Kashmir, Richa embarked on a journey to explore all the gardens of the region, venturing into unexplored areas in the hills with her artisans. She was spellbound by the abundance of florets, blooms, and the harmonious interplay of water and nature. It is a reflection of her awe and admiration for the picturesque landscapes she encountered. |
Eclipse of Bastar | Bastar is famous for its gond tribe’s indigenous craft of lost wax casting and naxalism. The first trip to Bastar was something that the designer remembers fondly as it was the day of a solar eclipse, the moon had swallowed the sun and a part of Earth was obscured from viewing. Some part of the earth for some time was enveloped with darkness but nothing is permanent, it was just phase. |
Gaia’s Garden | Gaia’s Garden is a captivating mixed-media art piece that beautifully weaves together various materials, each symbolizing a different aspect of human connection and the intrinsic ties that bind us to the natural world. This artwork serves as a testament to the profound influence of materials on the creative process, transcending traditional techniques to tell a heartfelt story. The concept of "Gaia's Connection" revolves around the idea that materials, like relationships, are essential in shaping the final outcome of any creation. The artist, inspired by a chance encounter in Auroville, pays tribute to the deep connections we share with one another and the environment. |
About Maison & Objet, 2023
The January 2023 edition of Maison & Objet in Paris centered on the theme "Take Care!"—a response to global crises that called for empathy-driven design. Curated by Vincent Grégoire of Nelly Rodi, the concept was structured around four pillars: care for oneself, care for others, care for the planet, and care for heritage. The fair became a site of emotional and ethical inquiry, challenging participants to consider the social responsibilities of designers and brands. Exhibits explored mental health through soothing color palettes and organic forms, while sustainability was addressed through circular design models, natural materials, and local sourcing. Special zones such as the "What's New?" installations showcased trend-forward pieces that balanced aesthetic play with social relevance. The event underscored that beauty must be in dialogue with wellbeing, equity, and environmental stewardship.
